a little about me
I have been creating art since childhood, and studied in San Jose, California at the San Jose Museum of Art (painting, drawing) in the 1970s and 80s, Alvin Ailey American Dance Center in 1984 (modern dance), and with Keith Lo Bue (mixed media, metalworking) of Sydney Australia in 2013.
I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2001, and currently have Primary Progressive MS, which makes walking difficult. A lot of my work centers around the creation of movement and space - going from dancing and being very active - to learning how to express motion and mobility in other ways. This is my challenge and goal - and I embrace it fully.
My home and studio is in Nevada City, California. I create jewelry and mixed media pieces using found objects and metalwork. The processes I use are as natural as I can make them; for example, I use salt water for etching metal (not chemicals), and ammonia, fire, salt and plants to color metal. All of the pieces have stories, and I work to tell them as best I can.
